Our Team
Pastor Nathan Lloyd is the Senior Pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church. Like the many other ministries of our church, Pastor Lloyd provides vision, counsel and direction to the ministry team.
Pastor Wilf Blake is the honorary chaplain of the print shop. In his early pastorate days, Pastor Blake was involved in a printing ministry from his garage. In his 80s, Pastor Blake’s encouragement to the volunteer team is invaluable, having experienced the challenges of such a laborious ministry before.
Paul Hunter: Paul currently has oversight of the Southland Baptist Press ministry. He was involved with Evangelistic Literature Enterprise (E.L.E.) for almost twenty-five years. His father, Pastor Sidney Hunter, was a pioneer in Christian printing and publishing in Australia. Paul is also the former editor of the Biblical Fundamentalist, affectionately known as the “B.F.”, a monthly publication read by Christians across Australia and overseas. Paul believes he is where God wants him to be at this point in his life and is excited about what God has in store for Southland Baptist Press
Dieter Barzyk: – Dieter is our volunteer printer, and is responsible for 100% of our current in-house printing. After a career in the Australian Navy and Telstra, Dieter could have chosen a well-earned retirement, but the Lord had other plans for him. Dieter taught himself how to print from observation, the operation manual, and his putting his hand to the plough. Commercial printers who have seen his work say that Dieter’s skills are comparable to a fully qualified printer.
Andrew Barns: Andrew takes the role of graphic designer on the team. When Andrew joined the team, he immediately brought this ministry to the next level. All the pastors we helped have commented on the professional quality of Andrew's designs, and a number have testified that new visitors are frequently welcomed at services after they were impressed by a very inviting flyer in their letterbox.
Derek Mitchell: Like his father who is a retired printer serving the Lord in another printing ministry in Australia, Derek has “ink in his blood”, and supports the team in several ways. Derek has previous experience with a commercial printing firm, and, with Peter, provides guidance to Sylvester. Derek often brings his son Braedan into the print shop at night and teaches him how to serve the Lord. Derek is the webmaster of the www.southlandbaptistpress.com
Sylvester Chong: Sylvester previously served as our ministry leader from 2005 to 2009. After a period of transition, the oversight of this ministry was formally passed over to Paul. Sylvester continues to assist and support Paul and Andrew on a regular basis.
Brian Hattersley, Denis Gurnett & Jean Collins:
Brian, Denis and Jean, along with the occasional others, collective run our finishing department, which includes the folding and packing of tracts, and preparing the boxes for shipping/posting. Brian, a former Pastor and Bible College principal, brings his great sense of humour to the print shop, which is a great balance to the menial tasks before him. Denis' previous storeroom experience brings valuable skills to the print shop. Jean is a great encouragement to our church family – she serves the Lord despite her many challenges with health. Jean is evidence that God does use the weak things to confound the mighty (1 Cor 1:27).
Our primary prayer base are the members of Good Shepherd Baptist Church. We praise and thank the Lord for bringing brethren with printing industry experience into our fold, which looking from human eyes, is a miracle in itself. The printing industry in Brisbane is small. Even now, there are at least a couple of people with some printing experience in our church who have yet to step forward to volunteer in our print shop. We patiently wait for the Lord to have them join us.
